Charlie the Slasher

Mr. Charles Gibson and his editing team have done their level best to further the Kill Palin Now initiative. They too have failed. (Thank God and the U.S. Military for the Internet!!)

Like Britain's, America's conventional media is an unabashed propaganda conduit. The only question remaining is, how much of this are y'awl willing to put up with?

Oh and Mr. Gibson, there's a Mr. Rather on the phone for you...

Cheers,

Charlie

Charlie, my husband and I were watching the interview last night and both of us noticed how very hard Charles Gibson was trying to trip Palin up. Each question he asked her was asked with such a negative and suspicious tone. Had it been Obama, I'm sure it would have been different. This is the reason so many Americans watch Fox news. At least with Fox we can hear the conservative side as well as the liberal. All other media networks are just liberal. I know there are people who don't like Fox think it is controlled by the government but it was actually created as a response from the American people sick to death of liberal media.

Denise, I would suggest you have a bias. We all do, but we should recognize and try to control it. I am guessing you really liked Sarah Palin from the moment she was presented to you. Yes, indeed, she has a very friendly smile and folksy way about her. You can relate to her. This is a natural initial response. But, to be good Americans we need to overcome this psychological tendency we have and move on to doing the hard work of learning about the candidates more in depth. It has traditionally been the job of the news media in this country to ask the tough questions on our behalf. You consider these questions negative and suspicious, but if you look on more liberal blogs, they considered these same questions to be "soft ball", and they were upset with Mr. Gibson that he allowed Sarah to sidestep certain questions.

My Dear Denise and Randy,

The point of our post, and indeed the majority of Conservative outcry over "bias in the media", is not that reporters asked tough or even "unfair" questions. That is, as you say, their job.

The anger is in reponse to the selective application of this "journalistic diligence" and at the manipulation of the answers it produces.

Has Senator Obama been questioned on so public a forum and with equal vehemence as to his associations with William Ayers, Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright, and Frank Marshall Davis? Has he been so thoroughly made to explain how he thinks his 143 days experience as a U.S. Senator qualifies him as Commander in Chief? Has he been grilled nationally as to why he voted merely "present" in 130 out of 4000 votes during his 8 year tenure as a state senator from 1997to 2004 - and these were votes on rather important and controversial issues ( http://votepresent.com/) leading one to speculate that is exactly why he voted "present?"

Not to our knowledge. But if you know differently, please do share, for we would love to know the answers to these questions, as would millions of others.

But we are not likely to get them from Mr. Gibson nor his peers as they are far more interested in fitting Mrs. Palin and Mr. McCain into their convenient model for Republicans as war-mongering dunderheads through strategic editing.

Unfortunately for Mr. Gibson and friends, the public is catching on to their little game. Alas the tail-spinning ratings of conventional networks and evaporating circulation rates of national newspapers.

Their days are numbered and in their desperation for attention, they tip their hands with increasing frequency.

These are not journalists just trying to get the facts. These are political activists in service of an agenda. As such, they are welcome to join the blogosphere. But high profile professional media is a forum which they have lost the right to commandeer.

And the free-market is letting them know that in no uncertain terms.

Cheers,

Charlie

Denise and Parrot have you lost all sense of perspective. I DO recall Obama getting raked over the coals for Rev. Wright's wrong remarks. The media hounded him for months. They replayed the tapes over and over and over until Barack finally had to come out and make a speech specifically about it.

We conservatives must take a look in the mirror and ask ourselves "victory at what cost?" I knew nothing about Sarah Palin until a few weeks ago and I still can't say I'm very impressed. Are we really that frightened of little old Charlie Gibson? Let's hope McCain got it right but c'mon crying foul over an interview... please people. She looked like an amateur to me, let's hope she's not. I would have preferred Fred.

My Dear Ma Thatcher,

We too recall said raking and that it occurred almost exclusively in the right wing media: i.e. talk radio, blogs, and perhaps - to the extent that it is "right wing" - FOX. We also recall, given the depth of their relationship and the intensity of Mr. Wright's statements, that it was entirely appropriate.

Mr. Obama's response was not a speech regarding his relationship with Jeremiah Wright but about, "Race in America" - a lofty and righteous lyric about white people and black people and why can't you all just get along (oh and his white grandmother was afraid of young black men.)

And since then, the case has been closed as far as the conventional media is concerned.

Again - we do not decry Mr. Gibson grilling Mrs. Palin. Indeed he must. We ask only that he do so without editing out key aspects of her responses and that the same degree of "grilling" be applied to Mr. Obama, Mr. Biden, and anyone else. And no - Bill O'Rielly doesn't count. We mean mainstream: those individuals and institutions that - for whatever reason - the majority of the population deem as "fair and objective." This is where the battle now lies, not with activists on the right and left who have all made up their minds, but with the "undecideds" i.e. those who really don't care all that much nor pay too much attention. Media bias can be devastating in such cases. Some bias is inevitable in human beings. Some is simply criminal. We must all be vigilant against it, for the conventional media no longer seems interested in being so.

Cheers,

Charlie
P.S. We too prefer the position's of Mr. Thompson. The package he presents, however, i.e. "another tired old white guy", would have proved unquestioningly fatal to the ticket, and we believe the alternative to be unacceptable.

As a viewer of CNN and Fox I can honestly say that they covered the Rev. Wrong controversy ad nauseam. Forget about the lipstick on a pig remark! My bigger point and concern is that I feel McCain's choice of this rookie Governor will be his downfall. She didn't impress me at all. I want to jump on the bandwagon but I just don't feel it. We are a party of great minds and great accomplishments and this just feels short sighted.

In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

My Dear Ma Thatcher,

Very glad to hear CNN and FOX have doled out journalistic scrutiny in these instances. There are 3 or 4,000 others with which we might ask them to do likewise, but we shall take what we can get.

Your concerns re: Mrs. Palin are understood. We hope they are unfounded but cannot say, in truth, that they are. Only time will tell. Thus far, however, we would argue the woman has more than surpassed any and all tests put to her. There will, of course, be more.

My Dear Anonymous,

Brilliant insight. Clearly the man is entirely unfit to be President. We could never vote for a man who utters the "C" word. Please do send an Obama 08 sticker to churchillsparrot@gmail.com post-haste!

Cheers,

Charlie

Have you ever called your wife a 'c' word? In front of others? Bad manners! I hope not Charlie!!!
