Memorial Day 2007

“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."
—Sir Winston Churchill, House of Commons, 20 August 1940.

You are Rosie’s Terrorists, those the Mediacracy routinely refers to merely as casualties, the troops they all “support,” those unwitting dupes implementing “Bush’s war.”

Here at Churchill’s Parrot and throughout the New Media, however, you are recognized as true heroes, the best of the West, this generation’s men and women of extraordinary valor who have taken it upon themselves to risk all in defense of human liberty.
For this we are deeply and eternally grateful, and commit ourselves to ensuring the whole story be told – regardless. In your honor, we promote this exquisite tribute to heroes in the war on terrorism.

Cheers,

Charlie

it amazes me that on a day such as memorial you have the gall to make it political. We all mourn and honor the brave soldiers who give their lives for our great country - in this war in any war. This is not exclusive to the right.

I'll tell you what gets me really ticked. It's not so much the loud mouths on the right - or the left for that matter. It's the vast majority of americans who are asleep at the wheel. Brain dead. The one thing you share with someone like Rosie or Cindy is that you actually give a shit...

My Dear Anonymous,

“Make it political?” War IS political. As one of our favorite military theorists, Carl von Clausewitz , once expressed, "Der Krieg ist eine bloße Fortsetzung der Politik mit anderen Mitteln.” In other words, "War is merely a continuation of politics by other means."

In this current engagement (the primary focus of my post), where those fighting and dying do so as part of a volunteer service, it is not at all insignificant to note that the vast majority agree strongly with the politics i.e. Mission of both Operation Enduring Freedom AND Operation Iraqi Freedom. This IS (virtually) exclusive to the right.

Your suggestion of my sharing something in common with Rosie and Cindy chills me to the pin feather. True we are all passionate in our own ways and “actually give a ()#&*$t” as you say. The question is, about what? I note that today Miss Sheehan is solemnly packing up her trapezes and clown suits and closing Camp Casey. As her publicist said this morning on the radio, now that Bush’s approval ratings are in the toilet, Cindy should be proud of her efforts. Talk about a “noble cause.” Yes, well done girl.

As for Americans who are asleep at the wheel, I agree wholeheartedly. Perhaps if the terrorists kidnap Simon Cowell, the nation will finally leap into action as one.

Cheers,

Charlie
